Steampunk

I just really love the style of steampunk. Sometimes I'm not sure why. I think it's a combination of classy ladies & gents (top hats and all), cyborgs and robots, gears, invention, and mystery. It is among my favorite genres and styles. I am grateful for steampunk.

Others Have Done It Before

This week, I've been taking care of a few things with my living and financial arrangements. I decided to call my parents for some advice, and to update them on my life as usual. I may sometimes be classified as a millennial who is just realizing how to "adult," but overall I realize I'm doing well. A big part of that is I know people who have done it all for the first time before, and they love me enough to help me. I am grateful for that. :)

I Work With Such Nerds, and It's Wonderful!

I've realized this since my first week of work. The people I work with are nerds about some of my favorite things: Pokemon, Star Wars, Hamilton, Dungeons & Dragons, and the English language, to name the most notable fandoms among some of my co-workers. Apparently, today was National Video Game Day, and my workplace hosted a party at around lunch time! There were several game consoles going ( playing Mario Kart, Super Smash, etc.), a viewing of Wreck-It Ralph, and lots of pizza. It was a great way to spend a lunch hour!

I am grateful to work with like-minded people, people who like to work hard, who love words, and who love some of the more nerdy and geeky things in our world. It's a pleasure to work with each of them. :)

9/11: Fifteen Years of Progress

It has been 15 years since the 9/11 attacks. My young eyes didn't realize at the time that they were viewing American history. When I was in D.C. for an internship about a year ago, one of the more memorable trips was to the Newseum. There, they have a powerful exhibit about the events of 9/11. The centerpiece of the exhibit was a large, crumpled remnant of a media tower from one of the World Trade Center buildings.

I was a kid at the time, and I wasn't sure what all the fuss was about. Besides, I didn't know anyone in New York. I've never even been to New York. Still haven't. But, I think about our country then, and I look at our country now. My conclusion: despite what many people say or complain on any platform, social or otherwise, I truly believe the United States of America has learned a lot in fifteen years, and that we are a better nation now. I am grateful for 15 years of progress since those unfathomable, unthinkable events.

Solo Football Party

I saw a football game at my apartment tonight. It doesn't happen very often, but it was a BYU vs. Utah game. I wanted the Y to win...and we missed it by a hair. The funny thing was, I was the only one in my apartment at the time. It would have been more enjoyable with other people there, but I still enjoyed reacting, talking, almost yelling at the screen with excitement, because I don't do that very often. I am grateful for a solo football party. :)

When Someone Else Says "Brrr..."

It's starting to get a little chilly. I wore a sweatshirt today! My favorite half of the year (the cold half) is coming! I like it, and am grateful, when someone says "brrr" in September.

Voting: On Top of Things

You know, I've got about a dozen to-do tasks that nag my mind each day. Each day, I try to work on one or more of them. Sometimes, I forget to or don't feel like doing anything after work. Today, I noticed a friend of mine applying for an absentee ballot, making sure everything would be in order, in order to vote at the upcoming presidential election in a couple of months. I am grateful for a friend's reminder to stay on top of a citizen's duty: to vote.
