Rogers and Hammerstein

This evening I saw a production of "Oklahoma!" done by a group I was once a part of in my younger years. The show had a lot of energy and it was a joy to watch. As I watched the show, I thought about the distinctive characteristics of Rogers and Hammerstein musicals. The two of them have a very recognizable style of words and music that has been loved for years, making them the Gilbert and Sullivan of the 20th century. They take wonderful stories and give them life through fun music and thoughtful lyrics. I very much appreciate the classics they have contributed to our modern stage.

So, what am I grateful for today? The classic combined talent of Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein.
